Kati Masami Menze is a freelance artist working in the field of performing arts, also as a performer and producer. She sees all three rolls as an equal part of her practice, which itself is rooted in dance.
In her work she creates spaces to question existing social and political structures. In order to communicate and to bring those topics/stories closer to the audience she makes the process of the work and things that might stay hidden, transparent. The so called „Liminal space“, the space which exists at any kind of theme between multiple realities, is the ground where she starts to explore. Through an observational stance, the recurring role as intermediary communicator and the focus on details, she opens interstitial spaces. In this she reflects through tools such as glitch, transparency and humor on multiple realities.
Her artistic vocabulary is orientated in bodypractices, often used in combination with other resources placed between performing arts and fine arts. She draws strength from collective work and attaches great importance to fair and qualitative cooperations.
She has a great interest in networking and is committed to the local independent dance scene and the cultural politics in Essen. Among other things, she is also involved in the Cultural Advisory Council of Essen city as a representative of the independent scene.
Since 2020, she has also been working as a certified GYROKINESIS method trainer. She offers classes at places such as FREIRAUM in Düsseldorf.
From the age of eight to eighteen she has been living in Tokyo. Japan has influenced her deeply. She graduated from Highschool there. Her family lives distributed in Germany and Japan and since 2016 she is based in Essen/NRW.
